Project overview
In 2023, CO-WIN cooperated with Geely to develop an 18-ton methanol reforming hydrogen fuel cell box transport vehicle. The project placed methanol-to-hydrogen generation and fuel cell power on a commercial vehicle platform, creating a mobile application case for distributed hydrogen production and heavy-duty logistics.
The vehicle uses liquid methanol as the practical energy carrier and reforms it into hydrogen close to the point of use. This architecture reduces reliance on high-pressure hydrogen logistics while keeping the vehicle aligned with fuel cell electric propulsion.
As a mobile hydrogen production and fuel cell vehicle project, the platform demonstrates how methanol reforming can support heavy-duty transport scenarios where fuel availability, range, safety and operating practicality all matter.
